Kids who grow up without fluoridated water have a higher risk of dental decay. Diet, hygiene and dentistry can’t fix teeth that are soft and easily damaged. Fluoride provides needed strength. Factor in systemic inequalities and health care for poor and marginalized communities, and you have a crisis in the dental health of Oregon: dental decay rates have risen almost 50% in the last 5 years, and our children have twice the cavities of kids in neighboring Washington.
We believe we can do better.
Portland has a chance to vote in May on community water fluoridation. We’re voting #YesForKids.
